The Renaissance and Reformation
Renaissance is the french word meaning the rebirth of the learning and the arts.This took place between 1300 and 1500 B.C.E. Prosperity of the Italian cities made it wealthy because of the trading. They traded ivory and gold. This made the rich want to give to the poor. One of the most successful city is Venice which was were trade was mostly done.
Italian City-States
Guild: An organization of persons with similar interests and goal. Known now as a Union
City-States: A sovereign state consisting of an autonomous city with its dependencies
Each Italian city-state conducted their own trade, collected their own taxes, and made their own laws
Guild members were now called Boards
Most of western Europe was made up of fiefs ruled by nobles, above nobles were the monarchs
Some City-states were, Republics governed by elected councils. Council members included commoners as well as the nobles

The reformation was caused because Martin Luther didn't like the fact that people bought indulgences to free their sins.
